After a 3 hour drive to the Lucknow airport we said goodbye to our Cousin, Akash and our driver Suresh.
Indian airports are different than US airports, you can't even go into the terminal without a valid boarding pass. We then made our way to the baggage check-in where IndiGo airline decided that no one travels with actual luggage and tried to charge us almost $200 in excess weight. They offer an option to prepay and it's cheaper but they charge $12 for an extra piece of luggage but they don't increase your allowed weight, so if you have 2 bags they can still only weigh a total of 15kgs. After many arguments we were able to get the price reduced but it was still highway robbery. We then make our way to the security line and I was randomly picked to weight my carryon. They only allow 7 kgs per carryon. As we are discussing that this is pure bullshit we watched multiple people walk by with much larger carryons walks by without being stopped. We finally browbeated the guy to let us through. Pretty sure I was picked because I was the only white guy around. For our next flight my wife and Brother in Law will take the carryons with them and I will walk in separate to avoid this extra fleecing.
The security line was a disaster. They are more strict than Japan and US, ANY electronic must come out of the bag including charging cables and small game systems. They confiscated my daughter's tweezers and nail clippers as they consider them weapons. They also scrutinized all of our various makeups even though they all met the requirements.
Once we made it through we attempted to get into the lounge but all they had was water and juice as food wasn't being served until the time would've been for boarding the plane. So we bought a few items from the food court and got in line. Even though it was assigned seating people acted worse than a Southwest "cattle call" pushing and cutting in line. At this point we were so fed up with the security and check-in process we started letting people know that they were not going to cut in front of us and that they needed to get behind our family. Most listened but one particular lady refused to listen and my Brother In Law got cutoff from us when boarding the bus to our plane.
He made it on the next bus and when he arrived we had him join us in the line and a few words were said to the lady. We then boarded our propeller ran plane and when we arrived out our seats the flight attendant asked us to move to the exit row which gave us more leg room.
Uneventful flight other than what I thought was a hard landing. We then were the last to disembark the plane and the bus they had for us was overflowing and the bus driver kept honking the horn wanting us and a handful of other passengers to get on. We all refused as there literally was no room. We waited long enough that another planes bus arrived and we jumped on that one.
On to our AirBnB
