Woke up after only maybe 3 hours of sleep. The bed was the worst bed I have ever slept in, in my life. It sunk in the middle so Vatsala and I would end up dead center in this cavern as large as the Grand Canyon. We finally got up and walked around our area. We found out why the hotel was so cheap, the shitty beds and it's in the "wedding" area of Delhi. Also our kids room reeked of mildew. Our hotel is surrounded by these outlandish buildings with big signs and over the top decorations which is then next to trash and "free range" cows. There are also TONS of dogs everywhere that look like meals are far and few in-between. They are very passive but will walk right up to you to see if you have food. My daughter has tried to adopt about 10 so far.
Also 2 minutes away from the hotel is a mall. It has a McDonald's, KFC, Domino's, Pizza Hut, and Burger King, along with Haldiram's, which is an Indian Fast Food and Sweets shop. The mall opens at 9:00 am but the only thing open at that time is Haldiram's and Metro Warehouse. Metro Warehouse is a wholesale for businesses. We talked our way as it's not open to the public. From what we saw it has all the knickknacks, clothes, and snacks that the businesses and street vendors sell throughout the city. The rest of the mall doesn't open until 11 or later. That's a common theme, even coffee shops don't open until 10 or 11 except Starbucks.....They are 8:00 AM.
We got back to the hotel and made our way out to the Red Fort and world famous Chandni Chowk, an area of all the various shops and services, which we'll get to shortly.
The Red Fort was built in 1639 as the main residence of the Mughal Emperors and is one of the main attractions in Delhi. Our driver got us to the parking lot where immediately we were accosted by these thuggy looking guys who insisted we had to get a tour because we parked in the parking lot we did. Our driver shooed them mostly off but a combination of me towering over them and telling them to "get lost" along with my wife telling them to go away we were able to make our way into the fort. We walked around for awhile but honestly once you seen a couple buildings they all started to look the same. The history of the place is awesome but unfortunately many of the buildings were destroyed by the British long ago and only the Marble buildings and some random buildings stand. Off to Chandni Chowk!!
