First Night in Delhi

Now it's time to find our driver.

While looking for our driver we got hit up by no more than 30 people asking if we needed a ride, needed help with our luggage, or just wanting money.

We found our driver and walked all over the parking area to an uneven dirt road to find out that our 10 seater we rented was instead a 7 or 8 seater and we needed 9, soon to be 10. So the company had to send a different vehicle. This should have been a sign that not all was going to go well. We were seeing these brand new "buses" and the 7/8 seater was older and beatup. 10-15 minutes later our vehicle arrived and as I suspected it was a little.....rough around the edges. Our luggage was jammed into the back in the aisles on laps and wherever it would go before taking off. The guy who I thought was with the tour company wasn't and started asking for money, a trend that will happen throughout our journey. While dealing with that some random guy pops outta nowhere coming up to me asking for a tip. I asked others "who the hell is this guy?" and was told they thought he was the guy who pulled the trolleys out of the rack and handed them to us. I told the guy I don't know who you are and he needed to get lost. He didn't give up right away but finally did.

Once we got moving we mentioned we needed to get some Rupees and the driver handed me a card for a Spices and Tea Shop and told me to call the number on his phone while he drove. Once the phone rang the driver talked to the guy for a minute and then hung up. We drove for a bit thinking we were headed to the hotel but my mapping had us going the wrong way. We finally pulled up to a random shopping area and the driver told us to follow him. We did and we went to the spice shop where two sketchy looking guys were standing there awkwardly staring at us. I checked out the shop and there were spices in it but they haven't been touched in quite a long time. He asked how much we wanted and pulled out FAT STACKS of Rupees and we exchanged our $100 bills at a rate you would never get anywhere else. My Father In Law asked them for a business card in case there was an issue and we all laughed but he was serious. He didn't realize there was no customer service available in case there was a problem with the money. We checked the bills and went on our way to dinner which was fabulous.

Made it to the hotel around 10 and called it a night.
